RMK Merrill-Stevens Unveils “Today’s Modernized Shipyard” at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Miami, Florida – 23 October 2018
RMK Merrill-Stevens (RMK MS) will unveil a complete overview of their evolving and innovative modern shipyard at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (FLIBS), October 31 – November 4, 2018.
RMK MS is the world’s leading superyacht refit, repair and maintenance facility and the first shipyard in Florida, dating back to the 19 century. FLIBS attendees will have the opportunity to meet the expert and friendly team of professionals, tradesmen and craftsmen at the exhibit booth for a visual tour of the equipment upgrades, enhanced shipyard capabilities and modern features and amenities.
The plans, which await an April 2019 unveiling at the shipyard, focus on servicing megayachts through the installation of new machines that allow for the efficient handling of what is to be known as the largest shiplift on the east coast of Florida, south of Jacksonville.
The brand-new custom 100-ton travel lift, referred to as “Old Glory,” will accommodate vessels in the 95’-100’ range in the newly renovated South Yard. The South Yard will feature interior and exterior restoration solutions, new equipment, workshops, increased on-site security, an on-site marine store and special orders department, and much more.
In the North Yard, a new state-of-the-art 2,700-ton shiplift is currently under construction as part of the modernization efforts of this iconic shipyard on the Miami River. The new superyacht repair facility will accommodate vessels up to 235’. As of July 2019, the North Yard will also include a new modern facility, a full range of shore power supply, an on-site crew lounge with multiple restaurants and new living accommodations next door.
In response to the attention received from recent changes to the shipyard, RMK Merrill-Stevens CEO Aaron Leatherwood states, “Team RMK MS is proudly turning heads and attracting more yachts to Miami with expanded service offerings and significant improvements of the cherished Merrill-Stevens yacht refit and repair facility.” As it has for over 130 years, the legendary shipyard continues to deliver commitment and expertise to the refit and repair of yachts and vessels ranging from 30’ to 300’ through teamwork, superior craftsmanship and collaboration, making RMK MS the preferred shipyard of yacht owners. The brand, catering to the technologically advanced superyachts, is strengthening their focus on supplying more advanced environmental protection systems and various repair services, which will be offered on-site.
Team RMK MS will exhibit in booth #812-813 at FLIBS in the U.S. Superyacht Association American Pavilion located in the Bahia Mar Yachting Center on Fort Lauderdale’s scenic beach at 801 Seabreeze Blvd. RMK MS will share the booth with partner Arkup, which creates self-sufficient livable yachts that encompass the best attributes of yachts, floating houses and waterfront villas. Arkup is building their first ever floatable home with the support of RMK MS, creating the yacht in the South Yard. Arkup architect Koen Olthuis will join the RMK MS team at FLIBS to discuss the livable yacht and meet with clients.
As technology in the industry and on the shipyard advances, RMK MS continues to promote mentorship, education, certification and training programs for staff and tradesmen. As a title sponsor of Fish to Make a Difference, RMK MS also promotes healing through fishing adventures.
